Checks are fun to mix with each other, but the outfit needs a balance (see what we did there? Checks and Balances? anyway, moving on…). The best way is to mix patterns that have a very different scale and contrast. This handmade jacket from Eleventy is in a large Prince of Wales check, black on grey-brown, with a rusty windowpane. Lots of contrast and a huge repeated area. That paired beautifully with our Tintoria Mattei linen check shirt – small squares, small repeat, and the colors in the shirt pick up the colors in the jacket, without feeling too matchy-matchy. To add more balance, we paired the top and jacket with a solid color pant…didn’t want to go overboard!
