OUR HISTORY

In 1974, Butch Blum, at the age of 27, opened the first men’s European specialty store in the Northwest. In the next seven years, he would introduce shoppers to iconic brands including YSL, Giorgio Armani, Pierre Cardin, Don Robbie, Egon Von Furstenberg, Basile, Gianfranco Ferre, Ermenegildo Zegna, Luciano Barbera and many more.

In 1981, Butch and his new wife, Kay Smith-Blum, a former buyer for Neiman-Marcus, expanded into women’s designer apparel presenting Seattle women with the best of American and European design. They premiered designers Issey Miyake, Michael Kors, Zoran, Ronaldo Shamask, Jean Paul Gaultier, Luciano Soprani, Gianni Versace, Claude Montana, Karl Lagerfeld, along with now international brands of Chloe, Malo, Loripiana, Bagutta and Genny. Internationally known for their cutting-edge taste level, the BB teams mission has always been to bring the newest fashion and finest product to downtown Seattle, with the caveat that every trend is not a friend. Butch Blum’s commitment to the community provides support to the arts, medical research, social justice and education.

In 2016, the Blums sold their business to the perfect steward, David Matsudaira, a specialty store owner in the Midwest with Northwest roots. Born and raised in Seattle, David and his wife Judy, had been waiting for a business opportunity to bring them home. Under his leadership, the BB buyers continue to search out the next big thing. Their concern for environmental friendly protocols, worker’s rights and sustainable wardrobe overlays every choice made for their client. Daily, fashionistas are treated to a selection rooted in almost a half-century’s experience in the global market place.
