TRENDS FROM PITTI – PT. 2

We’re back from the Pitti Uomo shows in Florence, full of ideas for the Spring 2019 season, many of which you can start wearing right now!  Here are a few of our favorite looks from the market, and pieces in our current inventory you can wear to get the look.

THE TREND: STRIPES

Bold stripes were also everywhere at Pitti. The new striped jacket is a fresh alternative to plaid – it has the same scale and doesn’t fight with your sport shirts, but gives a delightful Italian flavor to your outfit.  Matching pants are for style experts…but we gotta admit, they’re pretty awesome-looking.

HOW TO WEAR IT

Stripes are a novel pattern right now! For the last 10 years or so we’ve been inundated with every check and plaid imaginable, and a bold stripe feels very fresh in comparison.  Try a striped vest like this one from Transit with a basic tee, or layer it under a solid jacket.  If you want to try the striped jacket look but find the version at Pitti Uomo too aggressive, this version from Massimo Alba is just right for you.  Finally, a striped knit like this cashmere Eleventy is a great way to top off jeans and a t-shirt (wrap it around your waist when it gets warmer, like the Italians do!)

THE TREND: VESTS

Vests at Pitti were everywhere, in every fabric – chino cotton, linen, wool, and every blend imaginable.  Guys wore them single or double breasted, on their own and under a coat.

HOW TO WEAR IT

Vests are one of the easiest (and most versatile) garments a guy can “in-vest” in (groooooan).  Buy a suit and have a matching vest made, and you can wear that vest with a pair of jeans, or with a contrasting jacket. Outerwear vests are great versatile pieces too – we love the way they give a little oomph to a sweater (and they’re nice protection from spring showers).
